Channel Surfing – November 14, 2009

All the tube news that’s fit to surf …

Edward Norton and Elizabeth Banks guest star on Wednesday’s Modern Family episode, and Minnie Driver will pop up as the next big guest star, playing an old friend of Claire’s (Julie Bowen) in January.

– Just awesome: Craig Ferguson and his Late, Late Show has topped Jimmy Fallon‘s Late Night in the ratings for the first time. The ever-charming Ferguson is the one late-night show you should be DVR-ing if you’re not staying up to watch it every night.

– Will Lou Dobbs check in at Fox News now that he’s quit CNN? Perhaps we’ll find out when he gives his first post-resignation TV interview to Bill O’Reilly Monday night (8PM, Fox News).

– Heads up Twilight-ers: Taylor Lautner (squeal!) is guesting on The Jay Leno Show Monday (11/16, 10PM ET, NBC), and he’s bringing a never-before-seen clip of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The Gosselins are out at TLC, and Cake Boss is getting their timeslot. That’s a scenario where we’re all winners, no?

Arrested Development dad Jeffrey Tambor will star in Rex Is Not Your Lawyer with former Doctor Who David Tennant. Tambor will play the therapist to Tennant’s Rex, an attorney whose panic attacks force him to coach his clients to represent themselves.

Alyssa Milano has signed on to guest star as Castle’s (Nathan Fillion) ex-girlfriend on ABC’s Castle.

The Hollywood Reporter has scoop on how the entrepreneurs from Shark Tank are doing. Love that show.

– Here’s hoping ABC’s Charlie’s Angels remake will be more fun than The CW’s Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210 redos.

– If you’re in New York City, check out the Barneys holiday windows, which feature an homage to Saturday Night Live, with papier-mâché versions of Pat, Roseanne Roseannadanna, the Coneheads and Brian Fellows.

– The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Christmas special, which hits DVD on Tuesday (11/17): Naked Danny DeVito. Seriously. And TVScreener.com will be giving away copies of the DVD as part of our “It’s a Very TVScreener.com Christmas: 25 Days of Giveaways” uh, giveaways, which launches Monday, so stay tuned.

– Forget dancing. Next Tuesday’s Dancing With the Stars episode (9PM, ABC) will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis and Gibb brothers Barry and Robin (though sadly, not the Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon versions of them).

– And this weekend in primetime: SATURDAY: John Mayer On the Record with Fuse (9PM ET) features an interview with the singer, whose new CD, Battle Studies, drops Tuesday, the same night his NYC concert airs live on Fuse; and Mad Men‘s January Jones hosts a new Saturday Night Live (11:30PM, NBC), with musical guest Black Eyed Peas. On SUNDAY: The Prisoner miniseries remake premieres on AMC (8PM); Tough Love season 2 premieres on VH1 at 9PM; the fantastic History Channel series WWII in HD debuts at 9PM; Seinfeld and Funkhouser become friends on the penultimate Curb Your Enthusiasm of the season (9PM, HBO); and there’s a new episode of My Fair Wedding with David Tutera on WE (10PM).
