Potts Picks: Today’s Best TV – July 28, 2011

(ALL TIMES ET)

9PM | LIFETIME – 9TH SEASON PREMIERE
Project Runway
– Into every TV season some Tim Gunn should fall, and tonight, he’s finally back on our TVs every week, as the show kicks off its ninth season of competition, with Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia back in the judges’ chairs, and a lineup of guest celeb judges that kicks off tonight with Christina Ricci.

9PM | USA
Burn Notice
– Sam goes undercover to befriend a heroin dealer as part of a plan to help the CIA recover a weapon from some mobsters. But when his plan doesn’t go well, the CIA is unhappy with him, and, by association, Michael.

10PM | COMEDY CENTRAL
Futurama
– The gang time travels back to the American Revolution, which threatens to change the course of history.

10PM | USA
Suits
– Mike helps Rachel study for her LSATs and realizes she’s about to discover his big secret.

10PM | FX
Wilfred
– Wilfred talks Ryan into helping him get rid of Jenna’s boyfriend (guest star Chris Klein).

11:59PM | ADULT SWIM
Childrens Hospital
– Is there a theme in TV land tonight? Yep, and it’s time travel. Like the Futurama gang, the doctors go back in time.

12:15AM (FRIDAY) | ADULT SWIM
NTSF: SD: SUV
– Haven’t checked out this cheeky procedural drama spoof from the wacky mind of star/creator Paul Scheer? Do yourself a favor and do so, or DVR it if it’s past your bedtime. Funny, funny stuff, which also stars Rebecca Romijn, Kate Mulgrew and my favorite Freaks and Geeks alum, Martin Starr. PS: The title stands for National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle.

Worth flipping to during commercials:
– Two of the top 8 get the boot on So You Think You Can Dance (8PM, Fox);
– Bosses and employees team up to tackle the obstacle course on Wipeout (8PM, ABC);
– A houseguest is evicted on Big Brother (9PM, CBS);
– Riley’s getting pressure from his family, so he feels he has to make a decision about Zane on Degrassi (9PM, TeenNick);

MTV

– Season four premieres next week, so tonight’s Jersey Shore: From the First Fist Pump special (10PM, MTV) recaps the first three seasons;
Louie (10:30PM, FX) hangs out with his friend Pamela (guest star Pamela Adlon).

And the late-night line-up:
Conan (11PM, TBS): Jon Favreau;
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (11PM, Comedy Central): Peter Tomsen;
