(ALL TIMES ET)

9PM | NBC
The Office
– Rumors persist that Will Ferrell might be considered as Steve Carell‘s permanent replacement on The Office, and as the funny guy begins his guest stint tonight, fans will get the chance to evaluate whether or not he’s a good fit. Ferrell’s character? Deangelo Vickers, the new office manager who is subject to Michael’s training, and the staff’s attempts to kiss up.

(ALL TIMES ET)

10PM | FX
Justified
– Bummed about son Coover’s death (despite what she did to his hand), Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale) decides to get her affairs in order, which means a pile of cash and the promise of peace for one Givens family member, and a nice hunk of humiliation and trouble for one of Mags’ own. Meanwhile, when Winona lets Raylan know that she’s finally divorcing the hapless Gary, Raylan starts contemplating his own future, and Boyd … well, let’s just say Boyd starts to thoroughly embrace his inevitable role as the new king of Harlan County.

8PM | FOX
American Idol
– It’s down to the final eight, who perform songs from movies tonight. Will this week lead to another “shocking” ouster? Not for me … the only thing shocking at this point is how overrated this group of contestants is, especially when it comes to the judges’ criticisms (or lack thereof). The season started off with much promise, but, as Idol expert and author Richard Rushfield points out today at The Daily Beast, what we’ve ended up with is another lackluster season, and one that definitely has us all missing Simon Cowell very, very much.

8PM | ABC
The Middle
– Brick is humiliated (humiliated) when Frankie makes him wear his cousin’s old clothes.

8PM | CBS

9PM | ABC

– A magazine + a toaster = an explosive device? Adam and Jamie test that movie myth.

9:30PM | FOX

Alyssa Milano guest stars as a dentist who’s impressed by Cameron’s (Bret Harrison) job.

9:30PM | TLC

– Remember Nathan, from the original Extreme Couponing special, the guy who donated all that cereal to a food bank? The philanthropic coupon clipper is at it again tonight, as he tries to put his money-saving skills to work to assemble enough goodies to send 1,000 care packages to American military men and women. Awesome.

9:30PM | ABC – SERIES PREMIERE

Potts Picks: Today’s Best TV

(ALL TIMES ET)

10:30PM | A&E
Storage Wars
– Yeeeeeep! Though Dave Hester‘s trademark bid call makes me cringe, I’m happy that the network’s finally rolling out new episodes of the addictive Storage Wars. What is it that makes other people’s abandoned junk so fascinating? Probably the same reason we all stop at a yard sale: somewhere, in the irrational part of our brains, we all have those fantasies of finding a real Picasso for a dollar. Anyhoo, here’s hoping Darrell, Barry, Brandi and Jarrod manage to outbid the pot-stirring storage locker hound more often than not in the new batch of installments ahead.

– The new series follows a moving company in Boston, one of the tougher cities to maneuver, which presents an extra challenge when, say, as in tonight’s episode, you’re trying to (carefully!) lift an antique piano 200-feet into the air, in strong, cold winds.

10PM | SYFY – 1ST SEASON FINALE
Face Off
– The finalists have to create fairy tale characters for a cocktail party to determine who will be the series’ first champion.

10PM | FX

8PM | FOX
American Idol
Adam Lambert returns to perform, as the first of the 13 finalists gets the boot in the results show. A few thoughts on last night’s performance episode: It’s great to see Randy finally stepping up and giving real critiques; while Steven Tyler was entertaining in the audition rounds, so far, he’s proven himself to be almost as useless as an incoherent Paula Abdul when it comes to constructive comments in the performance shows; and, though Jennifer Lopez has been my favorite of the judges this season, it was off-putting that she didn’t know who Ryan Adams is. Overall, I’m finding the season to be more pleasant than seasons past, but I’m also less compelled by any one contestant. They’re still, on the whole, picking bad songs, the females aren’t distinguishing themselves at all (except for the fact that they’re apparently raiding the old Dynasty wardrobe – those dated dresses!) and while lots of people seem to be impressed with Cowboy Scotty, am I the only one who thinks he’s just been doing an okay impersonation of Garth Brooks, in both his behavior and his performances?

8PM | CBS
The Big Bang Theory
– All of a sudden, Leonard has too many women in his life: Priya, and Penny, who Priya wants out of his life.

9PM | FOX
Bones
– Booth calls on his military training to help him track Jacob Broadsky, the guy who killed the Grave Digger and has now moved on to new targets. Elsewhere, ZZ Top-er Billy F. Gibbons returns as Angela’s daddy, who thinks it should be up to him to name her baby.

9PM | CBS
CSI
– The CSIs investigate the murder of a former cop, who was convicted of killing his wife and was killed while serving his prison sentence. He also left behind a list of people he suspected in his wife’s murder, leading the team to reconsider his conviction in the process.

10PM | FX
Archer
– Malory orders Lana to help actress Rona Thorne prepare to play a spy in her new movie, and takes the opportunity to pen a little role for herself in the thriller.

10PM | FOOD NETWORK
Ice Brigade
– On the heels of last week’s working ice pool table, tonight the team builds an icy DJ booth, with working ice turntable, speakers and headphones.

10PM | MTV
Jersey Shore
The Situation, whose role on the show this season has been greatly diminished, tries to stir up trouble by poking Ronnie to find out who Sammi‘s been texting. Meanwhile, Vinny and Pauly road trip to Staten Island.

10PM | NGC
Ultimate Factories
– This week’s episode goes inside the Jack Daniel’s factory in Tennessee, while next week’s installment revolves around a visit to a Coca-Cola factory in Baton Rouge. Clever scheduling.

Potts Picks: Today’s Best TV

(ALL TIMES ET)

10PM | FX
Justified
– It’s easily one of the series’ best episodes so far, which is saying a lot. Raylan’s papa gets arrested again, Raylan’s services are requested for a state task force that’s investigating Harlan County crime and Boyd …. ah, Boyd. He gets mixed up in a payroll robbery scheme at the mine, and the consequences for some are tragic. The consequences for Boyd portrayer Walton Goggins, meanwhile, should be an Emmy.

Steve Schirripa, a.k.a. The Sopranos‘ Bobby Baccalieri, hosts this compelling new series that profiles paid assassins and famous hit man killings.

10PM | MTV – 25TH SEASON PREMIERE
The Real World: Las Vegas
– Yep, season 25! The second cast to hit Vegas will shack up at the Hard Rock, and they promise to be as wild, crazy and skanky as the first set of LV RWers.

10PM | BRAVO
Top Chef: All Stars
– The chefs head to the Bahamas, but paradise turns ugly when they have to go head-to-head against the winners of their previous Top Chef seasons, and then whip up vittles for Bahamian royalty with only the barest of equipment.

Worth flipping to during commercials:
– The girls model couture dresses on America’s Next Top Model (8PM, The CW);
Bobby competes to bake the best Boston cream pie on Throwdown With Bobby Flay (8:30PM, Food Network);
