Normie! George Wendt’s Cheers accountant may not have been the greatest at his job – no one who spent that much time downing beer and cracking wise with Sam, Cliffie and the rest of the Cheers gang could have been getting much work done – but he’s still the best account in primetime history.
And, in honor of Tax Day, a round-up of all things Norm Peterson:
1. Normisms. He routinely had some of the show’s best lines, but the all-time best still has to be this little exchange with Woody:
WOODY: “How’s it going Mr. Peterson?”
NORM: “It’s a dog eat dog world, Woody, and I’m wearing Milk Bone underwear!”
Five more great ones:
“What’s the story, Norm?”
“Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer.”
“What’s going on, Mr. Peterson?”
“The question is what’s going in Mr. Peterson. A beer please, Woody.”
“Whatcha up to Norm?”
“My ideal weight if I were eleven feet tall.”
“What’s the story, Mr. Peterson?”
“The Bobbsey twins go to the brewery. Let’s cut to the happy ending.”
“What would you say to a beer, Normie?”
“Daddy wuvs you.”
And you can wear your Normie wuv proudly with a Normisms t-shirt, and sip your own libations from a Norm mug.
2. Norm’s real name: Hillary Norman Peterson. He was named after his grandfather.
3. Wendt played the character on Cheers for the show’s entire 11-season run, but Normie has also popped up in episodes of St. Elsewhere, Frasier, Wings, Family Guy, The Simpsons and the short-lived Cheers spin-off The Tortellis.
4. Norm’s appetite for food was just as big as his appetite for beer. His favorite restaurant: The Hungry Heifer, where his favorite meal was the Feeding Frenzy.
5. Normie, or rather Wendt’s, Hollywood connections: His nephew is Saturday Night Live funny guy Jason Sudekis. And Wendt’s wife, Bernadette Birkett, provided the voice of Vera, Norm’s wife, who was heard on Cheers, but whose face was only shown as it was covered with a pie.
In honor of tonight’s Ugly Betty series finale (10PM ET, ABC), and, of course, the pure awesomeness that is Betty White, TV Land sent along this archived clip from the 2007 TV Land Awards.
Betty (White, that is) is set to return to this year’s TV Land Awards, which air on April 25 (9PM), and her new TV Land sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, debuts on June 16. Then there’s her Saturday Night Live hosting gig on May 9, and her appearance as Brick’s school librarian on the May 19 season finale of The Middle.
But even among the line-up of classic tube stars in the “Ugly Betty White” spoof below, she’s still the standout. Pure awesomeness.

She’s back for season three, and Sarah Silverman is as irreverent as she wants to be in tonight’s season premiere of The Sarah Silverman Program (10:30PM ET, Comedy Central).
The Emmy nominee has a whole season (10 episodes worth) of increasingly outrageous storylines and special guests (including Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg as Sarah’s imaginary childhood friend) ahead, beginning with tonight’s installment, in which Sarah takes sister Laura’s (Laura Silverman) advice to “man up” and take responsibility for herself waaaay too literally.
And let’s just say you’ll think twice about dropping your letters into a public mailbox after you see what Sarah, um, drops into one …
Here’s a preview clip of scenes from the entire season, which will also include Sarah getting personal with neighbors Steve (Steve Agee) and Brian (Brian Posehn), trying to fix a mayoral election and getting politically incorrect on Real Time with Bill Maher.

The boys are back, as Psych returns with new season five episodes tonight (10PM ET, USA Network). It’s a change-up for the show, which has aired on Friday nights since its premiere in 2006, but an hour of Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dule Hill) shenanigans is certainly something to look forward to mid-week.
Tonight’s episode is a gem — one of the most fun episodes of season four so far — as WWE star John Cena guest stars as Ewen, Juliet’s brother, a military man who’s hiding a big secret from his sis, which leads Shawn to assume Ewen is possibly involved in a murder.
The episode’s also a pivotal one for Shawn and girlfriend Abigail (guest star Rachael Leigh Cook); let’s just say things might be looking up for “Shawniet” fans …
Meanwhile, the Psych devoted who’d like to see the gang in action live should enter USA’s sweepstakes to win a trip to the Psych set, which includes lunch with the cast and signed scripts. Sweet.
And one more Psych note: Send get well soon thoughts to James Roday, who had a little appendectomy surgery last weekend.
Showtime’s original series are among the best on TV (the hubby and I did a major catch-up with Dexter during the holidays – a fantastic way to get up to speed on a whole series, by the way, though I have to confess to a few weird dreams after the days we watched five or six episodes at a time), and this clip promises another one is on the way.
Check out Friends star Matt LeBlanc “auditioning” to play Matt LeBlanc – yes, himself – in the upcoming comedy Episodes, about a couple, British TV producers, who bring their hit show to the U.S. and hire LeBlanc to star in it. Sounds fun, and Gervais-ish, no?
The eighth season of Project Runway debuts this Thursday, July 29 (9PM ET), on Lifetime, and fans will notice a big change in the show right away: each episode this season will be super-sized!
The new 90-minute episode length gives viewers a chance to enjoy more of the things we love about the show: More time [...]
Laura Innes and Shane West left the show, John Stamos became the latest hunk (in a long line that has included Noah Wyle, Goran Visnjic, Mekhi Pfifer and, of course, George Clooney) and, as always, the drama in both the ER and the staff’s personal lives was constant and compelling, and, thanks to our friends [...]
There’s a scene where (Da Maniac) takes a helmet out of his station wagon, and it has barbed wire all over it, and I inadvertently hit Charlie in the groin with it.
