Channel Surfing – August 25, 2009

All the tube news that’s fit to surf …

Testees aside, FX can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned, and the network is adding another potentially great drama to its line-up: March to Madness, a Don Cheadle-produced look at a corrupt college basketball program and the coach who takes his team to the March Madness NCAA championship tournament.

– Aaron Pierce and Martha Logan, comedians?! 24 fans will recognize the inherent humor of that sentence, but it is also a fact, as 24 star and comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub is hosting a live comedy special in L.A. this week, featuring 24 stars like Glenn Morshower, Jean Smart, Roger Cross and new season eight star Katee Sackhoff.

Paula Abdul has her next job, though it’s a one-off: She’s hosting the VH1 Divas Live special on Sept. 17. Two American Idol winners – Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks – will perform, along with Adele, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus.

– Don’t miss tonight’s Rescue Me (10PM ET, FX), which features a performance by Probie’s band ApacheStone , the real-life band of Probie portrayer Michael Lombardi. Apache Stone should be added to the cool Rocklopedia Fakebandica, the Website database of fake TV and movie bands.

– First, the Gosselins were atop US Weekly‘s hit list. Now that mag is not letting go of The Bachelorette “winner” Ed Swiderski and his alleged duping of Bachelorette Jillian Harris. US now says Swiderski not only had multiple girlfriends while wooing Harris, but told one of them in an e-mail that he wasn’t even attracted to Jillian. Harsh.

– Vogue editor Anna Wintour‘s sitdown with David Letterman didn’t do anything to dispel her “ice queen” rep, but I’m with Entertainment Weekly‘s Ken Tucker: It makes me really want to see TheSeptember Issue , the R.J. Cutler documentary about Wintour and Vogue.

– Put this on your wish list for the holidays: The Shield: The Complete Series Collection, in all its 8-disc glory.

– And tonight in primetime:

– Gordo’s cookin’ up a trip to Vegas for one of the teams on Hell’s Kitchen (8PM ET, Fox)
– Just like in the movie, Bianca asks Patrick to take Kat to the school dance on 10 Things I Hate About You (8PM, ABC Family)

America’s Got Talent at 9PM (NBC)
