Potts Picks: Today’s Best TV

4th and Forever
– The documentary series covers Long Beach Polytechnic High School, named by Sports Illustrated as the Sports School of the Century in 2005, and the high school that’s sent more players to the NFL than any other high school in the country (Marcedes Lewis and DeSean Jackson among them). However, in 2009, the school had its worst season in 15 years and lost to its local rival for the first time in more than two decades. The series, then, covers the school’s football players as they struggle with the pressure to succeed not just for the school and the community, but also for themselves, since playing well and earning a scholarship is the only way many of them can get out of that community and a future that may be filled with drugs, gangs and violent crime. PS – Among the other alumni from Long Beach Poly: Tony Gwynn, Billie Jean King, John Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Cameron Diaz and Carl Weathers.

How to Die in Oregon
– Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, the documentary focuses on Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act, which has allowed legal physician-assisted suicide since 1994.

So You Think You Can Dance
– Another season kicks off with two rounds of auditions.

Code Wars: America’s Cyber Threat
– The special includes an investigation of the nasty computer virus Stuxnet, hackers who’ve tried to break into U.S. government computers and the uber-secret National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center.

Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside
– Gaga sits down for an hour-long chat about her childhood, her new album and her favorite city, NYC.

24 Hour Restaurant Battle
– Among the contestants’ projects: a gastropub and a German beer hall.

10PM | MTV
America’s Best Dance Crew
Kanye West issues challenges to the last three crews, and then one of them is eliminated and the top two is revealed.

Real Housewives of New York City
– A fortune teller and a snake charmer factor into a birthday party the women attend while in Morocco, but neither one causes as much trouble as the mere fact that the women are together in Morocco.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl
– Ben asks Belle to give up her business and become a one-man girl.

Worth flipping to during commercials:
– On Naked Science (8PM, NGC), a biochemist tries to collect venom from some of the deadliest snakes in the world to see if it can be used to save lives;
Andy Cohen dishes about tonight’s RHoNYC on Watch What Happens (11PM, Bravo).

And the late-night line-up:

Channel Surfing – June 15

All the tube news that’s fit to surf …

– Among the TV shows that will host panels at the San Diego Comic-Con in July: Chuck, Dexter, Dollhouse, Lost, MythBusters, Psych, True Blood, Supernatural and Smallville.

– There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but there are free TV comedy episodes to watch while you’re noshing. Thanks to Sitcoms for the heads up about iTunes’ summer sale, which includes free episodes of Arrested Development, Reno 911! and The State, 99-cent eps of The Office, 30 Rock and The Larry Sanders Show, and, best of all, the entire five-episode first season of The State for $3.96.

– Fox has announced its fall 2009 premiere dates, kicking off its season on Sept. 16 with Glee and (another) new season of So You Think You Can Dance.

– Speaking of SYTYCD, why would Katie Holmes be performing on the show? Right? Yet, the rumor persists that she’ll be shaking her moneymaker on a July episode.

American Idol season five vet, and one of the show’s most successful artists, Chris Daughtry, talks about his second album, which will be released on July 14.

America’s Got Talent kicks off next week on NBC (June 23, (9PM ET), but will the show find its own Susan Boyle? Even though the Internet sensation was the runner-up on the latest season of Britain’s Got Talent, she’s reportedly earning more than $160,000 for a 12-minute performance at corporate events. In comparison, former President Bill Clinton gets between $140,000-150,000.

NPHNeil Patrick Harris, of course – is going to be a villain called The Music Meister in a fall episode of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Wouldn’t he be great in the next big-screen Batman, too …

Gossip Girl is the big TV nominee at this year’s Teen Choice Awards.

Heidi Pratt says Al Roker made her cry. So does dry shampoo … in other words, what doesn’t? Did being chastised by Whoopi Goldberg also make her shed tears?

Dave Letterman apologizes, again, for the Palin jokes on tonight’s Late Show.

Heroes star Sendhil Ramamurthy will guest star in the upcoming “Bollywood Homicide” episode of Psych, which premieres (not soon enough) its fourth season on Aug. 7.

TV List o’ the Day: The Best TV Dances Ever!

I haven’t caught the Dancing With the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance bugs, but I love the idea of ABC’s Let’s Dance, the upcoming reality series in which celebs will be asked to re-create famous dance routines, like Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze‘s Dirty Dancing number or Britney Spears‘ dance from the “Oops, I Did It Again” video (which Jack and Grace also memorably performed on an episode of Will & Grace).

What other famous dances might the celebs on Let’s Dance shake their groove thangs to? How ’bout these memorable TV toe tappers …

Turk’s re-enactment of the Bel Biv DeVoe “Poison” video on Scrubs – As Janitor says, “He’s so damn talented.”

The Batusi – He may have been the Caped Crusader, but he’s one big spazzoid on the dance floor.

The Charlie Brown Christmas Pageant Dance – Give yourself extra points if you’ve seen the “Hey Ya” and Psych versions.
